DIY Easter Baskets on a Dime: Simple & Sweet Ideas for Kids
As Christians, we celebrate Easter as Resurrection Sunday. Our focus is not on Easter baskets, so we have never really put much time and money into them anyways. However; we still enjoy giving our children some things that they love. Being the frugal gal I am, we tend to spend no more than $10 to $20 per basket. Today, I’d like to share some cheap Easter basket ideas that any kid is sure to love!
Where to Buy Cheap Easter Basket Fillers
I used to advocate for Dollar Tree as my main place for cheap Easter basket ideas, but now that they have increased their prices and my family has grown to five children, it’s actually cheaper for us personally to buy a large bundle of items from places like Amazon and split them up. Walmart also tends to have a lot of their items cheaper than Dollar Tree these days. A lot of Dollar Tree items are $1.25, but Walmart sells the same thing for $0.98. For the sake of this article, I will be linking to Amazon for the ideas, but don’t hesitate to shop around to find the best price!

Chalk Eggs
I love giving my kids things for spring in their Easter baskets. It just makes sense. These chalk eggs are perfect. Not only do they fit the Easter theme, but they are perfect for little toddler hands.
Bubble Wands
We buy these every year for our kids’ Easter baskets. If we run out, we simply fill them with more solution. Then, we toss them at the end of the year if they’re empty. What kid doesn’t love bubbles?
Crayons and Coloring Books
These are some of the items that make be best to get at Dollar Tree or the thrift store. However; I don’t know about your kids, but mine absolutely love coloring. Even my 13-year-old. They always are in need of fresh crayons and coloring books.

Easter Candy
You can’t have an Easter basket without some candy! We love to get these cute little individual carrots every year. There is a ton of inexpensive candy options out there for your Easter baskets. We don’t overdo it.
Easter Snacks
We don’t usually buy individual snacks, except for holidays. Our kids love getting their own little, favorite snacks. We actually ask for things like this for birthday gifts as well.
Paint By Sticker Books
My kids absolutely love these books. They keep them busy at church, road trips, you name it.
Easter Pop Its
My kids still have the Easter pop its they got a couple of years ago. They use them the most at church. You can find sets and divide them between kids or they’re around $1 during Easter at places like Walmart or Dollar Tree.
Kites
A super fun and cheap Easter basket idea are character kites. Dollar Tree is the cheapest place I have ever found them. They are the perfect spring toy.
Chapstick
My kids love having their own ChapStick and it keeps them from stealing mine!
Bandages
I don’t know the appeal with kids and bandages, but it exists! I don’t usually buy the character ones, but my kids love getting them as stocking stuffers or in their Easter baskets!
Wooden Crafts
If you haven’t been able to tell, my kids love anything creative and crafty. These wooden craft kits from Dollar Tree are perfect as a cheap Easter basket idea.
Pencils
As a homeschooling family, we ALWAYS need pencils. My kids love getting holiday themed pencils to use during the holidays.
Jump Rope
A favorite outdoor play activity. These get used for all kinds of things, not just a traditional jump rope. They are always great to hook up to your bike to pull random things!
Hot Wheels
I may or may not be married to a man who collects Hot Wheels, so in my humble opinion, these are good for any “kid” at any age! 🙂
Barbie
My 4-year-old daughter has recently gotten into Barbies. If you have a little girl that loves Barbie, you could get a doll or accessories to fill her Easter basket.
Hair Accessories
If you have teens or tweens you want to include in your cheap Easter basket ideas, this is a good choice! Hair brushes and hair ties for girls and hair products for boys!

Easter Coupons for Kids
This is such a wonderful idea! My kids would love to have some extra time to stay up or skip a chore than a random toy in their baskets. A perfect cheaper Easter basket idea!
Water Bottle/Reusable Cup
We practice minimalism in our home. We each have our own water cup. Our toddlers have one or two sippy cups and our older kids have straw cups. My husband and I have reusable stainless steel straw cups. No matter what you choose, pick something your kids will get a lot of use out of. They even make plastic character reusable cups from Dollar Tree.
Affordable Easter Basket Essentials
You can’t forget the other parts of Easter to create your basket or your eggs!
Easter Baskets
Of course, don’t forget your Easter baskets! Again, Dollar Tree and Walmart are going to be the more affordable options, but you can get a good quality one on Amazon and use it year after year until your kids grow up!
Easter Egg Kits
These Easter egg kits aren’t necessary, but they certainly are fun! Especially if they’re inexpensive!
