Growing up in a frugal family, very rarely did my mom buy garlic toast or a specific bread to have on the side. We almost always had buttered sandwich bread on the side of our soups or pastas. I love having sliced Italian bread from Walmart. It’s so inexpensive and just about as close to homemade without the added time. However; what if you run out? This is an amazing recipe that turns your average sandwich bread into delicious garlic toast!

Ingredients:

  • 4–6 slices of regular sandwich bread (white or whole wheat)
  • 3 tablespoons butter (softened)
  • 2–3 cloves garlic (minced) or 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley (chopped) or 1 tsp dried parsley
  • Salt to taste (optional)
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • Mozzarella or shredded cheese (optional for cheesy garlic bread)
  • Cookie Sheet
  • Foil, Parchment Paper, or Silicone Mat

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C), or set your oven/toaster oven to broil.
  2. Make garlic butter: In a small bowl, mix softened butter with minced garlic, parsley, and a pinch of salt. Add Parmesan if desired.
  3. Spread the mixture evenly onto one side of each bread slice.
  4. (Optional): Add shredded cheese on top if you want cheesy garlic bread.
  5. Bake:
    • For soft garlic bread: Bake at 375°F for about 8–10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly crisp.
    • For crispy garlic toast: Broil on high for 1–2 minutes—watch closely to avoid burning.
  6. Serve warm, optionally with marinara or alongside pasta.
