How to Make Your Home More Cozy
Have you ever gotten that warm, fuzzy feeling when you stepped into someone’s home? We have lived in several homes since we’ve been married and while some were small by American standards, one compliment I’ve always embraced about my homes is that they were “cozy”. This is the ultimate goal when I create a space. I don’t want it to feel cluttered, bright, or airy. I want it to be cozy. Today, I’m going to share 10 ways you can make your home feel cozier. Being the frugal gal I am, you can be assured, most of these will cost little to nothing.

A Clean, Minimal Space
If you’ve ever been on my blog before, you’re not surprised by this one at all. Decluttering and creating a simple, minimal space is going to make your home feel inviting. Have you ever been in a super cluttered home? It feels like you’re not supposed to be there. It makes you overwhelmed. Nothing cozy about that!
Use Warm Tones
I love neutral colors. Give me all the earth tones. I tend to prefer using whites with warmer tones. It makes for an easy way to give that clean, neutral look, while adding to the cozy atmosphere.
Soft Blankets and Cozy Pillows
There is nothing more cozy and warm than some soft blankets and comfortable pillows. Physical touch is also my love language, so I especially appreciate all the snuggly and soft things.
Wood Tones
Who started this covering wood trend? I love that I’m seeing wood tones reappearing. I absolutely love the look of wood trim, wooden beams, wood floors. This brings in the warm tones in other ways to give that cozy home feel.
Natural Lighting
Nothing is less cozy and inviting than a dark, drab home. I love incorporating natural lighting with some nice curtains. They’re not black out, but they’re not sheer. They are just enough to keep the cold or heat out, but the beautiful, natural light in.
Candles
Let’s face it, candles are the epicenter of a cozy home. It’s the first thing I think of when I think of a cozy, warm space. Candles have gotten a bad rap in recent years, for good reasons, unfortunately. However; consider making your own or opting for a pricier soy candle. They may cost more up front, but candles tend to last quite awhile anyways. You may need a new one every few months. Making your own can be a fun activity as well and it tends to cost very little. Better yet, hit the thrift store for some battery operated candles.
Keep Your Decor Minimal
Hear me out, I’m not suggesting you go for the look of bare, white walls. I’m just advocating for some open spacing. Just as a home should be void of clutter, making your walls cluttered can have the same negative affects. Use pictures, art, or decor that bring joy and loveliness.
Add Plants, Flowers, or Natural Elements
I can’t keep plants or flowers alive. I can’t do it. The only plants still living are the ones my husband took over. I absolutely love greenery and sunflowers. It adds the perfect pop of color and gives me joy to have some of God’s creation present in my home. Adding different natural elements can really create a lovely, rustic, woodsy feel as well. I don’t know about you, but thinking of romping in a field or the woods creates in me a sense of peace, just as I desire from a cozy home space.
